Red... Hmm... That thing might not be coming apart then. With heat it should be fine, but 99% sure the effort/reward factor is not there.
Thanks for the heads up!

Ben and I talked and we have agreed to leave the differential assembled. I am confident that I could take it apart and put it back together without issue, but in the interest of testing I will not.

I am replacing both diff bearings and will provide pictures and an overview of shimming the diff.

Shimming the diff is fairly straightforward, however, that side bearing/race is quite expensive. You have to remove and re-install the race to check the free play with and without shims to set everything correctly. If you can do this without damaging it, you can re-use it since the HLSD only replaces the passenger side of the diff and you will not have to remove the driver's side diff bearing. You should still measure everything to see if you are within spec.

Here is the NSK part number directly off of the bearing I removed from a B13 transmission:

I can not find a bearing in the NSK catalog that matches the dimensions of this bearing. I believe it was custom made for the VLSD boxes for Nissan. That would explain the high cost ($185, dealer only).

You DO NOT have to remove this bearing from the diff to install the MFactory unit. You only need to remove the race from the transmission case to shim the diff to set preload. You should be able to do this without damaging the race, so there is no need to purchase this bearing unless it has gone bad.

I apologize for the lack of updates! I am still waiting on the dealer to get me that diff bearing. They managed to order the wrong one the first time around.
