You should be fine. I'm running an 8.9" wide m&h on a 7" wide wheel just fine. with that much sidewall you can easily get away with a much wider slick than the wheel.

think you should talk to John over at M&H about that. 9" tire they recomend 7.5-10" rim width. to narrow of a rim can cause problems

Yeah if you go too skinny of a wheel you can have problems with bead sealing. Ive seen that. The wheels i was using were fine though and didnt have problems.
Im now ditching those and going to run a pair of 26X8.5X15 on some 15X7 wheels. They require tubes anyways so not like you have to worry about bead seal.
