You guys forgot to mention the 91-94 Highport Intake Cam on a Lowport Motor. Thats like 8hp gains. Maybe more?

Also Thermo Block Spacers - Theres Proven results from this mod.

he does have the thermoblock spacers on the "decent" return for your dollar section, the second one down...

I don't think he just put it there...lol

Didn't forget...the list is supposed to be more generic than specific. "Cams" is already covered in the "good" section.

$50 for a used highport cam, usually yielding one 8 whp is better bang for your buck than $325 for used S3's that might give you 18 whp..

is there any room to tweak the first page to basically have items listed with average cost/hp figures and put them in order from first to worst??

I'll help with the research if you wanna do it...

If I had a B13, the OEM cam thing wouldn't be pertinent to me.

That's kinda why I went with the descriptor "basic." The intent was a very very rudimentary outline for people who know nothing about SR20s.

I think you'd be opening a can of worms with cost/hp tags, as far as opinions go. Also, a lot of mods have drive-ability benefits that are greater than any net hp gain.

I think anything more specific deserves a wiki.

Speaking of newbs, that would include me, despite what my age reads on my drivers license.

I've got a red 1997 200SX SE-R 5 speed in good shape and I've been lurking on the board for awhile, but today I finally put on my first mod. I installed a Stillen intake with the K&N cone filter. I'd say it's good product with a nicely machined filter adapter and good support bracket. My only concern is that connecting the air temp sensor is darn tight without extending the wire. But, it does just reach and the car runs good. When getting on the throttle some you can hear the difference but driving easy it's as quiet as before.

What do y'all recommend as other basic upgrades? I'm thinking the shifter is due for a change. What's a good way to go there?

Thanks guys for this great forum

A header is the best way to get some power. I wish I'd done it before I went turbo just for kicks. They are real cheap.

As for the shifter, do you want the throw shorter?

yeah what he said.. if you're on a budget, you can pick up a SSAC header for $50 used in the classifieds, but it sounds like you're not (buying the Stillen pop charger) so then you might want to see if you can find an ASP header.. those will provide even more power, but IMO the extra power isn't worth paying $800 when an SSAC can be had for $50.
