Thread: FM radio static fix??

Anyone out there know what might be the cause of static when I have the radio and my lights on? The radio sounds clear when my lights are off but when I put my parking or headlights on I get this background static noise not alternator whine. This only happens with FM (haven't tried AM) CD's sound crystal clear.

Relay, bulb/socket or ground. I'd rule out the radio first, very easy. Grab a portable FM radio and see if you get the same static. If so, walk it around near each light to rule out on obvious bulb/socket. If the portable doesn't pick it up I'd suspect the radio.

I've been chasing similar FM interference in my SE-R and I've come to the conclusion it's the Stillen (JWT) upgraded ECU.

Try grounding the shielding on the antenna. The center plug is the actual antenna and the outer part is shielding to protect against interference. You can also try grounding the chassis of the radio a little better as well.

you can get a filter as well that is supposed to eliminate the static

Yes, but the static is no worse with them on then when I have the parking lights on or when I hit the brakes.

Gotcha , I have the same static problem in my Srt with fm radio only static when light go on , I have been told its because of my hid's , they are crappy eBay kind , but apparently those mess with mine . Your situation sounds slightly different though.
