door speakers?
i have started to really progress with my car....i sold alot of turbo stuff i was going to use and bought suspension bits instead.......couldnt be happier. any who, i want to keep makeing my car "newer" and i feel i could use a good sound system.

how do you guys fit componant speakers in your doors? i know the speaker i have now are on the shallow side and i have very little room for more. do you use spacers? remove stuff in the door?

heres my plan.

componant speakers for front door, 6.5inch JBL 3 ways in the rear and a 4 ch amp pushing all 4, infinity bass link to keep space loss to a minimum and i dont need alot of bass. then eDead in the doors and trunk floor, not alot, but enough.

you could use spacers, but then you might have a problem with the stock door panel. What car is it, what size are the speakers, and what do you have to work with on the inside of the door?

"what car is it" damnit i never thought i would be that guy lol.

its a 94 se-r. i have not decided on the speakers yet, im contemplating some elemental designs componants because they make some stellar SQ products. and i am also very seriously concidering a free air sub and put it in my soon to be false floored trunk were the spare tire is.

inside the door is the normal window jazz, however iirc there is some sort of tubeular brace directly behind the speaker limiting space....and im not messing with structure just for some speakers. im positive i can trim some of the door card away behind the map pocket just not sure if i will gain anything

I had to trim my door panel alittle to fit some 6.5" Kenwood Components. The magnets wasn't all that big so, I had no issue with the window channel.

You can't tell the door panel was trim until you take it off!

sorry, I should have known your car by now!

Elemental Designs things are awesome, from what I hear. I'm most likely going to them, or RE when I get a new sub.

With a component setup in the door, I don't think you should have too much to worry about. I was worried when working in my Volvo, thinking the Polk's I chose wouldn't fit, but they turned out great. Just get the speakers, and work around them, It'll be easier that way.

iirc Crutchfield should have how deep your door is on their website, check it out vs the depth of what speakers you want, and you may also want to pull back your panel to see how much room you have to work with. I know my B14 had to use 3/4" spacers to get any decent speaker to work. just had to trim some of the inner panel off to get them to fit. A few companies also make slim 6 1/2" speakers, but most are not good quality so I would stay away from those. pretty much made for people that want to drop something in and can't tell the difference between a factory speakers and a set of Rainbow Refrences

From what I have seen and read the Polk Audio db6501 is a good and cheap option to use. Then the Elemental Design 6.5" sub for the rear deck. that setup with a 4-channel amp would be a nice setup and is actually what I have plans to do soon.

Sounds like you have a good plan to me. Just remember when you mount your tweets try to get them at a level that places the distance between you head and the two tweets equal. Its a trivial thing to some, but it makes a diffrance trust me. As for the door speaker I'm not all that familiar with the B13 doors but you shouldn't need spacers. I know 6.5s fit fine in mine, but 6.75 was just a little to much.

the tweets will be glassed into the plastic panel for the side mirrors.
