alternator or battery?
last night im driving home and my cd player cuts off. At first im thinkin ok the cd skipped. then when i get to a stop my music comes back on. Then when i start driving it cuts back off. My dash lights are also going dim at idle and my heater seams to get weak at idle too. Do you think it might be a bad alternator or the battery?

Check your grounds. then check the voltage at the battery with the car off (12V), at idle (13.8), and at 3K RPM(14.4). sounds like a bad ground or loose connection at the battery.

ok so i used nistune and ecu talk to check my battery and its reading 17-18 volts. with the car off its at 13. I really dont know what to think of this.

check the connections like squirlz said, you can't go off of what the nistune/ecu talk says....that's just a starting point. From the symptoms you described it will probably be the alternator since the battery doesn't do much once the car is running.

The rectifier is going in your alternator. You can cook your battery if left alone. The alt will fail at some point. Maybe soon.

Sounds like the alternator to me. You can get a good used one from Miko for about $65.

Replaced the first alternator that coolant spilled in, 2nd alternator-Antilock-brake-battery light on at idle. Lights go out when rpms go above 1500 and starts to charge again. Swapped Monday. Fastfoward, last night, battery and brake light flickering and no charge. WTF? these alternator rebuilds from autozone. Now I gotta swap out another again. What could cause this hell? Grounds look good.

ok i finally got some time to really look at it, and the it looks like the wire from the alternator that runs toward to back of the engine bay has been cut and reconnected(not sure why). Cant really see cause of the manifold but it looks like it goes to a connector and looks removable. Where could i get a replacement? Im also gonna get another alternator today.
