Help with component speakers
Hey guys.

Well I recall a few of the folks on here are self proclaimed audio experts, or at least have a fair bit of experience.

Here is my problem. I own a 91 B13, with an Eclipse CD3200, it puts out 14RMS to the speakers.

Now I have gone to audio forums and asked, what component system should I get? I get the same answer: "You need an amp just get it no other choice". I want to know what will possibly sound the best with my power output, they cannot get that...ugh.

I don't want an amp, I have been there done that, I had a fully setup audio system before and it's not at all what I want in this vehicle.

Now to the heart of the question. How many of you have experience with putting component systems on lower power head unit amps?

I tried to research which brand or system would give me the best bang for the buck, and it seems a higher sensitivity is what I should be looking for in conjunction with the lowest rms power rating possible (of course nothing is lower then 1000watts rms these days :rolleyes

The most sensitive speakers I have been able to source are 92db. For example:
Amazon.com: Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component System (Pair, Silver): Electronics

Now lastly, I really don't want to or need to spend 200 bones on a damn speaker set. When I ride in my Moms 1994 CRV it sounds better then my speakers right now.

Thanks so much for your help.

You got it, find a set with high sensitivity and go from there. When I'm researching, I tend to use crutchfield, as they have listings of the sensitivity of speakers.

But, I stay with Infinity. I'd say Infinity reference, as they typically have year-end clearances and you can get a set for $99 or less.

You're just wanting front speakers, right?

Cool, good to hear I am on the right track. It is terribly hard to pick a brand or model as half the reviews say they sound terrible and half say they sound excellent, and most don't list if they are externally powered..

I was thinking, the only major difference between the component systems is the crossover and the removable tweeter.

Since my head unit has a fairly decent built in crossover, mine as well save money and just get the "non" component speakers.

I found these and they even split high and low to the tweeter and mid range driver already.

Polk Audio db651s 6-1/2" 2-way shallow-mount car speakers at Crutchfield.com

I could only find the Cappas in the component section.

Lastly, will 6.5's fit in the front? And yes mirrortints I will just be buying front speakers for now.

Thanks.

6.5's will fit in the front door but you will have to make some sort of baffle to space the speaker out 1/2-3/4". I would consider myself pretty good with audio, i have a lot of first hand experience and 3 years of installation experience.

First of all you get what you pay for. Period
Second, if you want something to sound good you have to pay for it AND make sure it is installed correctly. You can make a decent pair of speakers sound great if given the correct environment. Use some sound deadening around and behind the speaker. I did a decent little setup in my cousins 88 NX off of a cheaper Pioneer deck with some $150 pair components. You want a good passive crossover to keep the speakers happy, if you deck has built in x-overs use the low pass set to 50Hz to keep out the lows for more volume. My best advice is to go to a local shop and listen to a couple pairs and get a sense of what you are looking for. Every component set or coax will have a different sound to them. This is caused by the x-over network and the specs of the mid and tweet.

There's lots of component sets out there... tough to recommend one.

The sensitivity specs is something easily toyed with, but it's about the only thing you have to go by, but I wouldn't pay a lot of attention to it personally.
Like squirlz said, do a bit of sound dampening.
you'd be better off using $100 speakers and $50 of dampening than $150 speakers and no dampening, ESPECIALLY since you're only powering them off your deck.

Agreed sound dampening is huge with stereos.

ill go with some infinity like the guy said or ill go with some xplodes high frequ. in the front and some with some bass in the back. they sound pretty good. or get some xplodes all around for about 80 bucks and i could sell you a single 12 inch visonik for 30 bucks with the box. it doesnt really weight that much maybe 10 pounds or around that area and just put a small amp on it and youll have a pretty good system. thats wat i used in my b14. the purple and black one in nh when we went for the meet last summer. well if anything give me a call at 857-888-9718 my name is jc and i could help you out as much as possible. lmk
