i am 1 of those people who are mostly against crimps/butts.

this is how any wire joining should be done when you are unable to make a new run of wire the exact length you need it. Lineman’s/NASA type soldering. this joint will NEVER come apart. this is essentially stronger then the wire itself. If pulled on or tugged, the un-soldered part of the wire will be the first to break, not the solder joint

enohand thank you for the good diagrams. You've shown exactly what I was trying to show and the same method I use. I just never got around to posting pictures. That is the best way to solder two wires together IMO. It doesn't come apart, and it doesn't add to the thickness of the wire much at all if you do it properly.
