why? I used to do this on the qr25de because the ecu could not determin what real knock was and pulled out timing.

its hard to get the knock sensor off most fwd nissans. which car is it on? if its on your turbo car most aftermarket ecu tunes delete the knock sensor from the program. So its just there but not working.

on the stock ecu you need the knock sensor but that does not mean it has to be on the block. get another sensor and attach the harness to it. then use a bolt and washer to run a wire from the knock sensor to a ground point and your set. this is how I did the qr25de to make the ecu think the knock sensor was still on the block when I moved it to prevent timming from getting pulled.

i dont know if its a good idea, but i did it on mine, cause i couldnt get it out

if this is bad thing id like to know too, i dont really care if it works factory wise i just dont want it to pull timing at all

as long as you don't have knock your cool. Even with the knock sensor your stuff can still blow up from detonation.

The ECU "listens" to the knock sensor at the same crank position on every power stroke for each cylinder. There are "sensitivity" tables in the ECU for each cylinder because each cylinder sounds different, based on where the knock sensor is located. Moving it to another place on the block will obviously throw off these sensitivity values, which could make it either do nothing, or hear what it thinks is knock and pull timing all the time. If you take it off and put it in a quiet place, it definitely won't hear knock, and therefore the ECU won't pull timing, but you won't have anti-knock protection.
