New Polk/Elemental Design setup in a B13.
I've been lazy about posting this for a while now. After reading lots of stuff about how good Polks are supposed to be I decided to buy some of their components to update what was in the car. Then Sentrixx reminded me of the 6.5" sub from ED. Well I managed to get a pretty sweet deal on both of them and couldn't resist getting rid of my sub and having a nice setup. Then right around christmas my presents to myself showed up.

After this I went to the car looking at what I would be undertaking since I've never really gone about doing an install like this before. And I discovered my hatred of the adhesive use for the plastic covering of the door. I also found out that the people before me had someone install and it was done really bad, so I had my own challenge for this.

Here is a comparison of the Polks vs. ED sub.

finally making progress

Trying to screw down these subs is fun. With a B13 you don't have too much room to get a screw driver in there.

And the front all buttoned up.

Lastly here is my setup in the back, with a little surprise since the magnets didn't clear some parts back there.

Please ignore the dirt.. can't do much about it when you live in Minnesota.

Hope you enjoyed the pics. And I have to say this setup blows my old one out of the water and all for about $250.

the use of 2 6.5inch subs is a damn fine idea. i would really like more low end but dont want a big box. how does the hydro rod do at opening the trunk? do you have to fight it to open it? or does the lift push up on it?

That is one subtly trick install! I love it.

How does it handle all the free air?

Did you modify the rear deck lid to compensate for the sub's excursion or did you just leave it off?

It opens and closes quite nice, but you really should 2 of them for the best support otherwise it opens a little uneven, but my trunk is rarely open and I have my hand close by when I do open it.

There are 2 back there. I didn't know there was until Sentrixx told me about them. They are pretty cheap too. About $65 a piece new, but I got a sweet deal from coach.

They sound very nice. I like it alot more than the Boston/Pioneer Premier and 10" sealed sub I had.

I cut the holes as large as I could to still use the stock covers. And I haven't had any problems with it, but I will never really push them to the limit. Stock cover keep them hidden nicely too, so it almost looks like my car came stock like that.

The ONLY thing I would really recommend is using dynamat or something on the rear deck and surrounding areas. When I turned them up to see what they could really do, compared to my old 10", I thought my car was going to fall apart. Needless to say I keep them turned down and I see dynamat/eDead in my future

Sweet. I cant wait to install mine. I'm just waiting for my Nine.2 amp to arrive, hopefully this week. Im seriously considering a vented box for them though. I would prefer not to cut any holes in the rear deck lid and keep that stock look. A vented box will also get more low end output out of them.

i have extra sets of the dampers from AG>SR, are those the same? and how did you remove your trunk bars in the first place that usually run under the speakers?

I don't know how long the ones you have are but mine are around 18" and all I did was cut the springs in the trunk. It was easier than trying to pull them out, plus i'm never using them again so I don't need them in good shape.
