HELP temp gauge
I just got a new 97 se-r like 3 weeks ago started to fix the problems that it had. when i got it the temp gauge will jump up and down like crazy when i driving or just idling so i thought the temp gauge was no good i got a new one from nissan and installed it today. Went for a drive and same thing but this time it does it when i give it gas or im driving. what's wrong with this it getting me mad that nothing goes right for me.

Also check the connection at the gauge temp sender. This is just a spade terminal and can easily corrode or fail. You could also get a new sender.

He meant the connections on the motor. They are on the passenger side of the intake manifold, near the oil filter and right above the power steering pump (hard to get to). The one that goes to the temp gauge is the single wire, the other goes to the ecu.

They get gunk and grime in the connections and begin to work intermittently. I've had the same problem on two different B14s. A good cleaning fixes it.

wire brush and a careful hand (i've broken the spade off before) - if that dont work, replace the sender. or you could take out the gauge alltogether and put in an aftermarket one that doesn't go "Engine is fine...engine is fine...engine just **** a brick...you need a new engine, sorry I didnt tell you sooner"

btw, if you have a deep 10mm socket, you can take the sender out - look in my 'how to remove an engine coolant temperature sensor' in the how to section - it will give you a couple photos and you can remove it, clean it, re-teflon tape it, and reinstall it yourself.
