Thread: How to: Modify B13 fixed intermittent wipers to variable intermittent

If you ever had variable, you'd know. This mod is 50% cool factor, 100% better than stock and 278.24% cool idea. Japan and the Philippines got variable intermittent, but the US didn't... What's up with that?

Once I find a stalk that's compatible the conversion will be "OEM style" complete. As I stated from the very beginning... I'm on a mission, like a boss.

P10s have it built into the column arm and they have a knob on the end, i wonder if it can be a direct swap without modifying anything. it is a definite benefit because depending on level of rain, you can adjust, i usually never go into the slow or high modes when we do have rain.

Nope. Been there, tried that. P10's use a completely different set-up and run the delay through the "time control unit", not an amplifier as the B13 does. Also, the P10 switch body is completely different as compared to the B13.

How about the Variable Intermittent wiper switch from the Euro NX's that MOJO sells? NX is a B13 too. Just a thought...

It should work, but has a rear wiper control on it. No big deal except for aesthetics.

Reminds me that I need to get back on this and find a OEM variable stalk that'll integrate into the B13 wiper switch....

I believe I figured out why the Maxima stalk didn't work. I checked it with a meter and it has a variable range of 10-1000 ohms. The 10,000 ohm resistor I installed in the board is well out of the stalk's range. The variable resistor value having to be higher than the fixed resistor in order for it to work. Whoops, should have checked that.

The 10,000 ohm resistor works fine with the 1-100,000 ohm volume control I'm using, letting the variable function kick in at about 1/10th of the volume control's range.

I believe if I install a 10 ohm resistor in the board it'll let the 10-1000 ohm stalk do it's thing, or more accurately "swing".

Well piss! I solder in a 10 ohm resistor, mounted the Maxima adjustable stalk in the B13 wiper switch, wire it up and... nothing. I tried two different boards although I used them before for testing and they may be shot.

I need a known working board and I'm going to wire in jumpers where the resistor goes, plug the switch into the car and play with different value resistors via the jumper wires. Much easier than pulling it out of the car, soldering in another resistor and hoping it'll work over and over again.

I will get this, OEM style.

Nope, never could get it to work with an adjustable stalk and believe me, I tried. So either use this mod as-is with the external potentiometer, source a eruo NX stalk w/rear wiper control, OR the best solution would be to source a PHDM B13 intermittent stalk, it's a direct replacement...
