Oh wow, what now? cracked valve cover.
Hey,

So I was putting in a new PCV valve today. Put some Teflon tape on the threads. Started screwing it into the valve cover. Long story short, the valve cover now has a hairline crack in it starting from the top of the PCV valve extending about 2 inches. I drove it around and didn't notice any oil coming out of it. Does this need to be replaced or do you think it will be fine?

eh i personally would replace it but as long as you arent leaking oil for the time being i think it would be fine, but would definitly look into replacing it

it really shouldnt be a big deal at all, but if you would like a new valve cover i have like 3 of them. haha. ill sell it to you cheap. And next time dont crank down on it soo hard, it doesnt need to be super tight, just snug really with a little nudge extra. There is no pressure that is gonna cause problems, as long as the threads seal its fine.

Neways I got one ill sell you for $40 shipped

they are too easy to find not to replace it. but for the time being i would clean the piss out of the cracked area and slop some JBweld on it to be safe and keep dirt/moister from getting in.

further more, if the crack ends at a plce not coverd by any oil baffels i would drill a releaf hole so the crack will not spread. (only drill it if you are able to remove ALL of the metal shavings caused by the drilling.)

That is way too much work to do for something that you are just going to be replacing and why would he want a hole through the valve cover? A hole in the valve cover is worse than a crack.

i say just fill in the hole just so nothing starts to leak out. if it starts to get worse then replace it.
