A/C lines/cables?
So I'm not sure where to post this...so here sounds good.
I just got my a/c fixed...sort of. I was obviously low on freon, so they refilled it and got everything working. However, they found that the 'cables' that hook up the a/c unit were f'ed. Now, I know nothing about a/c except that cold air comes out and if not...it's not working. So, bare with me...
The guy said there are two cables, one is for the temp and one is for the direction of the air...i.e. dash vents, floor vents, defroster...etc. He said the one for the temp was missing a clip and the one for the direction was completely stretched out like someone was trying to rip it out. The stretched out cable has to be replaced, so he took the clip from that one and used it on the temp cable.
So now (well, I pick up the car tomorrow to make sure) I have cold air, but it will only come out of the dash vents. No complaints here...better than no air in Sacramento 100+ degree heat! However, it would be nice to have those functions work for when I sell the car and/or winter comes and I need the defroster.
But...I have no clue what this guy is talking about. Where's the cable and what clip is he talking about? Can anyone give me part #'s, pictures, a better a/c for dummies explanation and whether I'd be able to replace it myself? He said the parts would cost $100 and would be another hour or so of labor...at $100hr labor rate. So, $200 just to have the air flow up, down or forward. Seems rediculous to me.
I'm in no rush to get it done since I don't need the defroster and I don't think I've ever used floor vents. However, I am going to sell the car eventually and winter is only a couple months away.
Thanks for any help.
