This is backwards. Most folks who don't want to go the whole way install the "torque" mounts - the firewall and front/dogbone - and leave the transmission and passenger mounts alone. I did it that way on two of my old SE-Rs. With the ES inserts front and rear the vibration wasn't bad at all - with Prothanes it was unbearable and they were in the car for less than a day before being removed.

I have NEVER heard of doing the passenger and tranny mounts without doing the front/rear. Never.

from what i herd the best thing to is do the front and back mounts for less vibration... leave the sides alone

Whoops, guess I got that wrong. No wonder it didn't make any sense to me. =]

I remember this "torque mount" the same as Ben..
When I did the research on the old site, Im quite sure they recommended Passenger & tranny...

But either way, it didnt work for me. I sold the prothanes to another forum member..

Good Luck with your solid mount install. Hopefully, you will have better results.
Please post your results..

you have to try and press just the rubber, burn it, cut it whatever but you have to leave the ring on..

on manual cars you can press the ring out.. guess they are a tad smaller??

I have already done the passenger side. The only way I could get it to fit was to remove the inner ring. The prothane mount wouldn't go in to the mount when I just took the rubber out. Was this the same for you? I will be completing the install on my next day off, Wednesday or Thursday. I will post up after.

If you found that on the old site, that's misinformation, and I'm really surprised. Maybe they said to do the pass/tranny AFTER the torque mounts, but no one no one no one to my knowledge has ever recommended doing the pass/tranny only.

^^^ thats stupid.. like you said why would you do the sides.. the back and the dog bone take most of the punishment!

also i cant remember which mounts it was.. the back and tranny mout i belive you have to keep the ring in

Okay Jensen...

But, I guess we were both stupid.. Cause thats what we did!!

Anyhow, auto tranny on can use the rear mount since there is not a front mount.
So for automatic cars, I guess we can only do ONE solid mount...

You girls stop bickering! In most if not all FF equipped vehicles, the motor is mounted in such a way that the rotational force is always front to back. To eliminate excess torsion, you upgrade the front/rear mounts, if they exist. The side mounts do little to prevent the rocking of the motor from front to rear. They do help, but not to an extent that the front/rear mounts would.
