Well I guess we'll find out if my '96 200SX SE-R will make the cut for Bring A Trailer in a few weeks. One owner, no accidents, 107K miles, and located in SF. It's been in storage for 16 years (drove it around and changed oil periodically). I used to be very active on the mailing list (remember those?) and even authored both the "fog light mod" and "intermittent wiper mod".

One step closer to selling. Gave the car a full tune up (adjust idle, timing, throttle position sensor, cleaned throttle body), wires/cap/rotor/platinum plugs all good, PVC looks good, replaced O2 sensor, took off the header and CAI (gotta pass visual), drained/refilled the coolant (and at the block), replaced upper/lower hoses, flushed power steering, fresh synthetic oil, OEM filter, OEM fuel filter, bled the brake fluid all around, new rotors/pads in the back, new AD22VF rotors and street pads in front, new tires all around (Hankook Ventus V2 Concept2), full alignment, recharged the R-134A, cleaned all air ducts and the blower motor, fresh Redline MT90 in the gearbox, shampooed the interior, and replaced the headliner that was starting to sag a bit. Basically I want the next owner to have ZERO problems loving this car as much as me, and they can finish the job I started with:

1) the brand new KYB AGX coilovers w/ new 300/200 springs that are still in the box never installed
2) the lightweight flywheel that I never installed (still on the original clutch)
3) the remaining urethane mounts/bushings that I never installed (front dogbone was enough for me)
4) reinstalling the header/CAI if they wish (it really opens things up)
5) installing still new in box Axxis Ultimate pads in the front for track/autocross days

I drove a spirited 175 miles (to enjoy the S3 cams and JWT ECU some more) to get OBD2 readiness for the smog check, and all the above work was rewarded with... a PASSED smog test. Took the vehicle off non-op status this afternoon and it's now legally on California public roads again.

I will gladly say that after taking the car out of mostly storage for a period of 15 and half years to drive on the streets (legally), I can really appreciate:

1) The direct mechanical feel of the 90's cars compared to today (an actual throttle cable).
2) Cable actuated clutch
3) The rifle bolt action of the shifter (SMC adjustable short shifter helps).
4) Communicative hydraulic steering (the underdrive pulleys really set the assist just right).
5) Smoothness revving to 7800.

I'm really going to miss this car....

This is cool! I am going through a modest restoration of a 99 SE-L that sat for almost as long…. Gone through a lot of the same steps you have but i have more to go.

Can you tell me about the springs you have? Are they lowering springs? If so, where did you find them? I want to get some AGX’s, but i’m having trouble tracking down some appropriate (Hyperco or Road Magnet) springs to go with them. Also looking forward to buying a CAI/header when its mechanically solid. Difficult to justify new expensive parts on such a car although i i know i probably wont regret it…

If you read the comments under some of those similar auctions (like for SE-R’s) they are filled with people who owned similar cars that regretted selling them. You sure you wont be in that same boat?

I bought the KYB AGX/Ground Control/Eibach coilover setup from Ground Control ~20 years ago and never installed them... I also bought the Motivational Engineering rear mounts from Motivational Engineering at around the same time, which will give an extra inch of rear suspension travel.

Yes, I'm sure. It's been fun wrenching it one more time and driving it around a bit as a daily driver, but it really should go to the next owner to enjoy.
