What an electrical nightmare. I am horrid with electricity but I would have never done that nonsense, baby league stuff.

well the humidity could be playing with the glue causing a not so good connection on what appears to be nothing more than some wires stripped with teeth and twisted together. get some proper crimps on there, solder, or whatever to make solid connections and re-test. the maf only needs 4 wires at most.

Of the 9 connections 3 weren't even soldered. They had 1 of the center ground wires ( Z32 MAF ) going through the wiring harness and the other grounded to the battery. Instead of tieing the 2 grounds together and then wiring them to the harness and the reground. I cleaned it up, soldered everything properly and shrink wrapped all. It is supposed to rain the next 2 days so i'll get to see if it did anything. If not then i'll move to the ECU harness. As i said before they cut out the ECU harness and spliced in a new one. They seemed to have soldered the connections ( i've only pulled the electric tape on 3 wires ) but like the MAF wires nothing on the ECU harness was shrink wrapped. Just electric taped.

Distributor, cap, rotor and everything exept the alternater have been replaced on the motor over the years and nothing has solved the problem ( ECU replaced also ). Not because i was hoping they'd fix it, because the car was a rolling heap of dung when i got it and either they died or i got a good price on a replacement.

What you're describing is shit work, but I don't think the culprit.

Have you sprayed the plug wires/cap/coil with a spray bottle in the dark yet? If yes what was the result? If no, why not?

Really though it take about an hour to swap out harnesses. Why waste so much time?

Yes i've sprayed it. And theres no sparks. Because, again, i've had the problem since day 1 of owning the car. And have replaced 99% of the external engine parts.

Is this more of your spoon fed troubleshooting? You've replaced an engine wire harness on an SR20 powered car in 1 hour? With the motor in the car?

Really though. You've belittled me since your second post. Please move on theres nothing to see here that would interest you.

I actually wasn't belittling you, any of the times I have posted. Snarky remarks maybe, but never belittling. I'm trying to help. A harness swap is easy with or without the engine in. The trickiest part is going through the firewall. Other than that its pretty cut and dry.

I still think it is the crappy wiring. ECUs and sensors are very sensitive to changes in voltage. If anything, re-solder and shrink tube the exposed wires and loom it back up with new electrical tape. Its a lot cheaper than replacing parts willy nilly. (not saying you do this, but some do...)

I should have taken a before pic. Just imagine all that tape covering a different section of wire. Yes those are all indivdual pieces of tape. I took out about 10 unneeded "extender" connections. 2 of the grounds were just twisted together and taped. And of course they cut the ecu side about 2-3 inches from the plug. So not much room to cut, splice, solder.

Now i gotta take off the intake and get the wires coming through the firewall to the engine. TPS, AICV, CTS ( both ) and KS all need to be resoldered and shrink wrapped. Plus whatever else i come across while i'm back there.
