Discovery of a VET/20V COP alternative that fits properly..
I have chosen to install a standalone on my 240. It was suggested that I upgrade the coils to those which have internal ignitors built in, so I can get rid of the oem RWD single ignitor. So I ended up buying one of all the different ones I could find, to find the best fitting one and then make a way of mounting it. Well I found one that fits properly. So here is what I have come up with it. It is from the Toyota matrix/celica. I believe 2005 and up. It is of the same length and the mounting hole lines up with the factory ones in the valve cover. The rubber seal fits nice and snug. In these pictures you can see it installed on my RWD DET, but you can also see it installed on my buddies VET.

These coils are roughly $20 bucks each on ebay. And there are other variations of the same coil. But these to me fit the best.

Here are some pics.

For the VET it would be best to remove the steel insert from the coil mounting lug to have more wiggle room for the mounting bolt.

I have an 2009 matrix with the 2.4L, I will try these some time to see if they fit. Does it matter if it is the 1.8L or 2.4L? My wife has a 2010 Corolla with the 1.8L, i can pull both and see if there is a difference.

I have a feeling it's going to be from (specifically) the 1.8 VVTI version only. I am not sure if Toyota makes more than one variant of the 1.8 however. But I doubt it willbe from the 2.4.

The 1.8 VVTI is the same drivetrain (essentially) from the Celica GTS.

the corolla/trix/celica came with 2 different 1.8 the 1zz fe and the 2zz ge.

the 2.4 coils should be bigger than the 1.8 corolla's iirc.

edit: the part # is on the front of the coil.

In 2010 the 1.8 changed again, i think. I will check the 1.8s i have to see if they fit the 20v valve cover, i thought i already checked mine out of the 2.4 out of curiosity.

This is with the 1zz engine, base model 1.8L.
