Oh, good thought! I futzed with the timing about a week prior to installing the filtercharger, and I believe I'm at approx. 17 degrees advance but I will add that to my list of things to check. Thank you Sir.


Um, I obviously didn't have her in timing mode last time I "adjusted" the timing. Based in the 20 degree mark I was running about 25-30 degrees advance.

There was also a slight bit of oil inside the distributor cap so I cleaned that up and reinstalled. I ordered the distributor o-ring seal today, but the big o-ring that seals the cap is deformed so I'll get one of those too while I'm at it.

My point was never that it is a re-installation/installation issue with the cams (they were notably never removed)



Sorry, just didn't see how a set of stock cams that had never been tinkered with would run fine for 20 years and then suddenly the exhaust cam is torqued too tight, I assumed your example was from a cam swap.
