Axle install question
Hey, I'm going to be putting the axle's in my b13 so I can roll it around without destroying my wheel bearing's. Only thing is the control arms are quite crusty and I dont want to take them off till I have replacement's. Just wondering if it's possible to unbolt the strut and tie rod end from the knuckle and install the axle like that? Any input is appreciated. Thanks Dave

You can do it with unbolting just the strut, and sway bar leaving the tie rod end and ball joint attached on either side. You just have to figure out the right angle, and bend the cv joint a bit. It helps if you have someone to turn the wheel or leave the keys in so the tie-rod can move back and forth easily.

yes,you can ruin the wheel bearings by setting the car down.....ask me how I know
I now use some axle outer stubs off some busted axles that I put in there since that happenned. You should try that, because all of the weight will be on the bearing otherwise.

Hmmm, well the car has been sitting with no axles for almost a year. Didn't realize just the weight from sitting could ruin them as well. Definitely a good tip to know. I'll soon find out if the front wheel bearing are still any good! Lol Thanks Dave

In my case I know they were ok before my swap and bad after. They could have been on their way out,I suppose. I just havent taken the chance again since.
