Thread: 20 foot pounds and the stud for my header snaps off, arg. Having trouble extracting

A header stud snapped upon tightening, at 20 foot pounds.

My bits aren't having much luck drilling in, kept them cool and lubricated. Can't get a removal bit to even bite.

Any advice?

Extractor bit.its reversed thread.try using that and try to break with a wrench.maybe spray pb blaster over night before attacking it

get a good dril bit, they should drill into those studs very easily. I just fixed a snapped one when I did turbo setup. a good bit and like he said a good extractor and should come easy. When there is no bolt or head on it is just the threads holding it in.

When I try drilling the stud spins in, but I think there's some damage to the thread preventing from spinning out easy. My extractor bits are crap, they just dull over as soon as I try turing them into the little hole I did manage to make.

I'll see if I can find a better bit tomorrow, the town I live in sucks for any quality part. As there aren't any.

Any recommendations for a good drill bit? I don't have much cash to keep throwing away right now on crap parts and tools.

A good cobalt bit should do good. If it spins then let it spin till it stops then drill your hole. That would sux if it spins freely but can get it to back out if is caught on something. Can you grab ahold of it with a vice grip?

Cobalt, yes. Cryo treated, yes. Able to tap that stud, no.

The stud is recessed in the hole, of course, so I can't get any hold on it. Anything I stick into the little hole rounds off, the stud is too hard. Gotta get a drill bit that's harder.

titanium drill bit.. couple bucks at home depot for 1.. worked perfect for me when a flywheel bolt snapped on me :0 Also access to welder then weld a nut on the bitch...

Make sure u center punch the shit outta that busted bolt too, that way it is centered.

carbide bits, ive only really used machinest sets and snap on ones. ive tried dewalts once and it was a good product but i cant vouch 100 percent
