If you rev match the car will go into gear without the clutch? I know I can take it out of gear w/out the clutch pretty easily but never tried to put into into gear without clutching. Also, what do you do from a stop and starting the car?

Yes, but I only do this on cars with lazy engines. I wouldn't even attempt it on a car with a light flywheel that I cared about. It can be done, but I won't practice it, so I'm no good at it.

Avoid stopping at all costs. If you must stop, I guess you kill the engine, and then crank it in gear to get it going again? It's not pretty, but possible.

I had to drive 300 miles without a clutch cable. Not run. Construction on the interstate sucked as well. After a few stops and jumping the car with a starter I gave up and drove on the shoulder tell it was clear. When I got home I started lubbing up my cables and it works wonders.

Could you rev in neutral and slam it into 1st/2nd?

There is no "neutral" when your clutch is borked, but I'm assuming you knew that.

hmm, if there's no nuetral how do you shift into other gears w/out a clutch? You have to pass a neutral state?

i dont know what bens on about, the transmissions themselves have indeed a neutral. the clutch or cable have nothing to do with that..

i think what fenderbender means is there is no Modulation, so you cant exactly shift as you normally would...

what i do is if i HAVE to come to a stop i pop the trans in neutral an coast to the stop, when i gotta start again i put the car in 2nd and use the starter and gas pedal to get going..

you can sorta change gears i hear but u have to get the rev's JUST RIGHT..

What I meant was, there is no disconnecting the engine from the drive wheels when your clutch (or cable) is messed up. They are locked together always. That means to shift gears you need to do the rev synchronizing yourself, and you can't rely on the internal synchros in the transmission. It can be done, and a lazy engine makes it easier. It is not an easy skill to master, and even I feel I'd ruin a transmission trying.
I've done it on a few modern VWs. It wasn't pretty. =]

Yep, ive had to do it multiple times when spec clutches first came out and were pos garbage. Blew the spring out in disk and was 15 miles from home, and at the meet we were at we were in the downtown side of things where every 200 ft is a damn stoplight. Only thing ya got to do is shut the car off when coming to a light, put it in 1st and then start the car in gear, after that its rev matching the entire time. Made it home. Had to do this on 3 seperate occasions with those damn clutches. Never been stranded because of a cable though. Ive actually never completely broken one either. I had to change my buddies cable on the side of the road at night. Pretty easy.
