Yup this star smog is lame. My pops has a GST with an 18g turbo and supporting mods. Pretty much failed smog after putting 98 percent of things to stock minus the BOV, DP, and IC amd piping. He said he passed the sniffer but the tech failed him cause he didn't have stock piping and amd stock BOV. All in all this is lame. Fuh visuals, isn't the important thing to pass the sniffer?

Anyways peep.. was still curious to know if the plugs were all the same for the EGRs?

Id take the state with no emissions but illegal marijuana any day any time. Never done it, never had the desire to, never want to, and never will. However, I am into modding cars and so hell yeah. BTW Yuma, AZ ftmfw when it comes to cars. No emissions, no inspection, non of that other crap. Where I live in texas, no emissions but you have to pass a visual safety inspection. They dont care if you have mods as long as the car has a full exhaust with no exhaust leaks you pass. They dont care if you have egr.

EDIT: But marijuana is a wonderful plant that makes my wife fun to live with

Tech passes some shit that isn't stock and the state finds outs its a 10k fine and possible jail time. I know a smog tech that has already been caught up so these other guys are just trying to keep their job rather than be anal... It sucks ass but it is what it is... the whole star thing is just basically saying that the test station is a good spot with few errors ect. It's nothing bad its basically like having to go to a test only station

If you live in an area of the U.S. where you have no state inspection stuff.. or it's lax.... be warned, it's just a matter of time before it comes there. Same thing happened here

Yeah I would rather pay 300$ rather than to take my det apart. Or even worst buy a stock De to put on that probably wouldn't pass either. Barney's if you find that hookup for yours lemme know

thanks

Mark - don't know if you ever got the answer that you were looking for or not.

Your dilemma is this. Even if you put a USDM EGR intake manifold on your JDM High Port it may not pass visual in your 96 B14. Passing visual will depend on who actually looks at that car. Even if they are lazy and still reference your hood sticker, it is obvious that the intake manifold is different and they most likely will fail your for that. Reason being California does not allow older parts on newer cars if that make sense.

Your best bet to get through smog on a legit basis - use a 1994~1998 engine that has the 94Y low port head on it or get a Euro Low port engine as they came with the tubular exhaust manifold and EGR.

If you need a pic let me know as I have one in my basement.

Let us know what your outcome was with the STAR program.

Good Luck.
