selected for CA "star smog" =/
anyone have any idea if the low port egr plugs and high port egr plugs are the same harness wise? asking because i have not had egr in years. Now that CA has this new "Star Smog" thing i got selected. Anyways i have a JDM Hight Port DE waiting to be put into a 96 B14 SE-R. i was just wondering if i can just slap the USDM manifolds and call it a day? or am i going to have to splice into m harness or anything like that? the motor that was originally came with the car was sold a few years ago so that option is out.

thanks
Mark

That should be pretty straight forward. Just swap over the USDA sensors and hook all your egr back up. You may want to take it to a tuner to have them clean up the mapping.

Amazing, you can purchase marijuana legally in that state but can't have an intake or header on your car.

p.s. no I am not against marijuana BTW, I think people should be allowed to whatever they want as long as it does not negatively impact another person

So you're saying if you had to chose you'd live in a state that had illegal marijuana yet no emissions?

California is a great state for herbs but when it comes to emission it sucks!

I think emissions regulations are ridiculous. Check the car for good brakes and tires, headlights, thats it.

if you want to save yourself the mechanical hassle and youre willing to pay upwards of $200 to get the smog done, then that would be the best solution. Thats what I'm probably going to have to do for my B14 and my dad's B13. We wont even bother with tampering anything mechanical/electrical on our cars lol. We'll cough up the extra $$$ and call it a done deal. My b14 isnt due till october so i'll have to wait till then to find out if I have to go through the STAR process but I've already started looking around for a source to get my car done along with my dads early next year.

What is the star smog? How does paying $200 for smog test a better solution for him?

STAR smog is pretty CA's new way to smog cars that have smog issues in the past or are most likely to have issues with smog (ie. cars like ours). Pretty much the DMV designates your car to a specific location to smog you car and once your car is there they inspect the emissions equipment along with any other part that can affect emissions on your car so if you have "illegal mods" it is much harder to get the tech To let you slide past visual.
Now living in the wonderful state of CA only provides me a handful of STAR certified smog locations that can give you the "hookup" with a STAR smog, however for a much higher fee (look to spend +\-$200) than most smog tests. But like I said earlier, if you want to save yourself the hassle of taking off every single modification you have done, putting on the stock parts, then putting the aftermarket parts back on then the owner of the vehicle can do so. But in my case, I don't have the time to spend swapping out a countless number of parts, especially since I'm going turbo.

On a side note, even certain "CARB approved" modifications won't pass visual anymore lol
