Opinion on these tires for FWD SR20 vehicles?
Size 205/45/16.

Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

Hankook Ventus V2 concept H437

$85.00 each on Discount Tire Direct, but Ive heard mixed. Heard they are prone to over steer. Anyone try them out? Or should I spend the $20 more and go after these Kuhmos' you guys always talk about:

Ratings, reviews and specifications for Kumho Ecsta AST tires

OH BTW. Small public service announcement. NEVER EVER purchase THESE TIRES. NanKang. They are AWFUL. Horrible. Worst directionals ever.

Oh BTW this is mostly for SCCA solo this season, and maybe a couple road races. The car handles fantastic with the Ksport coils, front and rear strut braces, and adj swap bars, just need a good tire that don't cost like $160 each.

yeah,actually.
I just bought 205/50-15 Hankook V2 and they were great for the 2 days I had them.I put less than 100 miles on them.
Bought them at discount direct,too.
The tires were mounted by a local tire shop but would barely balance out,and had vibrations and all kinds of BS.
I took wore out kuhmos off that still rode smooth as silk. They were starting to show chords.
I had to take them to a discount tire store, because they were not believing me when I called...saying maybe they were not mounted properly, yadayada
After they tried to balance them with no luck, they replaced them with Dunlop Direzza...which I love so far, although they are not balanced perfect either. My rims arent bent, and my alignment and front end parts are in tip top condition too.
Turns out 3 were egg shaped, and one has 1/4 inch of side to side wallow.
I also bought a set of tires for my truck that were hard to balance.
I have bought alot of tires in my life, with very little issues. Now ,all of the sudden,2 out of 3 sets of tires from DTD have caused me a bunch of grief.
After 3 trips to get my truck rebalanced, and tires replaced,it still isnt perfect.Pisses me off, because I took cheapass, wore out tires off it that rode better than this 1000 dollars set.
I know this is not a typical scenario...but you asked...LOL\
I still have yet to try out the Kuhmo XS that I got from them for the convention trackday.
Get the Kuhmos

Both of those tires are going to suck at that, and likely self-destruct in doing so.

Trust me, i've cheaped out on tires before, and it ended up costing me more money than if i had bought proper autocross summer tires instead.

that ventus tire is 500 treadwear too, wont be real good on the track.I had tried them for my daily to get mileage.
Maybe try the kuhmo XS like I got for the track. Its a sticky tire similar to azenis for about 100 a tire and 200 treadwear

A word of caution to go with that reccomendation , the rubber compound on the XS doesn't perform very well in the rain. They are the least expensive tire in that category though, and I highly reccomend them for dry use only.

Yeah,I got them for strictly track/and autocross use only.I would never use them for my daily.
I ended up with the Direzzas for the daily use.

K thanks I appreciate it. Luckily, I have 2 other vehicles that I can drive in wet conditions if needed.

I just didn't want to spend $160+ per tire to fool around on SCCA auto crosses. My g/f thinks I'm nuts. (Well I probably am) - she's like, "So how much do you win if you are the fastest?" I'm like "umm.. it's just for fun.. you have to pay to do it" She gave me look

I decided to have a wheel, tire, and brake setup that I would use for the trackdays and autocrosses. Then take them off and put the street setup on in between.
I know that seems more expensive, but the compromises are too great to have one tire for everything....brakes,too.

Ask MCarp22 he is a weekend warrior racer, and has way more experience than me.I am just getting started. However,I am learning that there is no cheap way out.
Why not get some NX wheels for cheap,,and find a set of tires for the track, and get some cheap street tires for your daily wheels.
