Transmission issues need a few pointers
Before I drop the transmission I want to get your guys suggestions and pointers.

I just finished doing my VE swap last night and just messing around before starting the car I was shifting through all the gears to make sure everything was smooth. I had zero issues shifting and the clutch pedal felt like it had some resistance as it would because of the pressure plate.

This morning I managed to get my car to fire(I had a couple issues unrelated) and I let my car idle for 10 minutes so I can check for leaks and marvel at the VE. Everything sounded awesome, no strange noises and metal grinding. I shut my car off and then decided to give it a spin around the block before I wired up the VVL and what not.

Before I left the garage I was pushing the clutch pedal in and out while I was getting ready to leave and I can hear a little whining noise with the pedal is engage. So I put the car into first and BLAM stuck in first! I couldn't get it out of first. I shut the car off and pressed the pedal in and its SUPER soft almost like nothing is there. I took a trip to Home Depot and bought the 1" to 3/4 brass reducer thinking my cable just became stretched out and installed it had the feeling of a clutch again and was able to get back into neutral. Once I did that I tried starting the car again and I heard a horrible noise and felt like a grinding feeling and shut it off immediately. Just to confirm the noise location I tried starting again and now the car wont fire.

Now when I took the transmission off the DE I noticed the throw out bearing was broke so I bought a new one but the new bearing didn't have the indents where the throw out bearing clips are and they were also missing when I pulled it apart. Basically I installed a new throw out bearing with no clips thinking things might be ok.

Sorry for the length but I wanted to type out everything I remember happened. Thanks!

You need the clips on the bearing. Are you sure you purchased the correct bearing? Hopefully nothing broke in there but you won't know until you take it apart...

I think you were just lucky that it stayed in place without them before. I would never install a bearing without them.

Maybe that is why it broke? Gotta have the clips.

The first throw out bearing wasn't installed by me but the clutch was working before the swap. Assuming there was no clips I just thought it was normal but I did a little research and discovered there should have been clips after everything was finished.

Re: Transmission issues need a few pointers
The clips secure the clutch arm to the bearing which is secured in place by the input shaft. Without the clips nothing is secured in place and when you installed it the shift arm was probably bumped or moved and knocked everything out of place. That's probably why you had to put a spacer on the cable too. Find some clips, say a little prayer to your deity of choice that nothing was damaged, take it apart and put those clips in and put it all back together. Not the end of the world by any means.

I ordered a oem throw out bearing clips and they through in springs. Not sure what springs but I am going to guess they are part of the fork.

The springs are on the shift fork. I've never replaced those but new ones can't hurt. Hope it all goes well for you!
