6 weeks of working on it and something stupid like this happens. I was sooooo close. I hate motors sometimes. It drives fine and feels powerful I just hate that damn sound and since I know for sure it's not an injector I'm not going to run it until fixed

Lol. I get constant pm's asking questions or help with a problem. I should start an sr20 hotline and make some money. Hahaha. If the valves were touched moved worked shims mixed up you have to reshim the lash. Simple as that. Wish nissan would have done the rockers like hondas but they didnt.

I'm serious man, you should start some kinda help line. Like have people donate $1.00 to you via Paypal and you answer their question. lol.

I even used a scope and it didn't sound like the noise was from under the valve cover. Thankfully it's very easy to unplug the harness for the injectors for the VE motor, did 1 at a time, and sound never went away.

UPDATE:

I pulled the valve cover off (speaking of this, has anyone else noticed how much heavier the VE valve cover is than the DE?)

Anyways, the problem is at cylinder #2 on the intake side. Feeler gauge showed they were all good except that one. I should have everything taken care of tomorrow.

Motor looks really clean. Mobil-1 only and the engine has between 62-66k miles. Not sure if you can make then out but those are the N1 cams)

It's frustrating to get so far but not far enough. Replacing this head gasket was one of the biggest pains in the ass, but I took advantage of the situation and had the internals worked over. I haven't gotten on it past 6000rpm yet, however it does feel more responsive. Once the situation is taken care of, and I do another oil change, I'm going to hit up the same dyno it made 206whp before and see if I gained anything from the port and polish. I'd be happy with just 2-4 extra HP.
