Help me fix my speedometer
I've been having this problem for a while. I have a b14(electric speedo) and my speedometer will work at random. A lot of times it doesn't work when I start the car cold and it will start working at some point when the car warms up. I notice in Consult that sometimes my speedo will actually be functional but I won't get any speed from my ECU. I think this is a big clue, but I'm not sure what part is malfunctioning.

I've replaced the sending unit in the past with a brand new one and this did nothing to help fix the issue. I've taken the instrument cluster out twice in the past to reseat the screws and clean the grounding points on the circuit board on the back of the speedo.

Any ideas what's going on? Anything to check? I think the fact that my speedo works, but the ECU isn't reporting speed is a big clue. This issue, of course, is also affecting the use of my cruise control :/

The sensor is connected the the gauge, then the VSS signal is sent to the ECU. My guess is the speedo gauge is broken.

That, or a faulty wire. Try hardwiring the sensor into the cluster (refer to FSM or check back of cluster to find the pins of the speed sensor) to rule out any wiring problems.

Or check for continuity.
