Thread: P1492 after headers install

I pulled the code and looked it up...looks like an EVAP canister code but all I messed with was the EGR valve when I was installing the new headers. Would a leak in the EGR circuit cause the P1492 code?

Which kind of header is it, did it have the open bung for the stock EGR system connection, and is this on a B13 or B14

It's a b14 and I put used the OBX headers which comes with the bung for the EGR.

Ok, I had the same problem. I got the cheap OBX header from eBay for my '97 SE-R. I ended up having to order the bung hole screw in, or whatever it was called until I could install a new EGR system since to remove the old, rusted OEM header I had to basically cut the old EGR thing off.. then I got the EVAP canister code coming up as well. Did you make sure the EGR system was installed properly, and the top side of it (if you follow the EGR tube towards the firewall) is all tightened down? (there are some screws)

now this was last summer and I'm trying to remember what eventually happened, I think once I installed the new EGR tube and such the code went away. I cant remember if it did on it's own or I reset the ECU a few times. I also got the 02 sensor codes too.

Thanks storm...at least I have an idea on where to look. I'll replaced the crusty tubing on the EGR first and hope that fixes it. If not, I'll by the EGR assembly

ESM shows P1492 as Purge Control Solenoid and Circuit: open or shorted. Maybe a connector was disturbed or swapped?
The Solenoid is between the distributor and the intake, at or below valve cover level.

Fixed! Turns out the connector for the purge solenoid wasn't seated all the way! Thanks all!
