Thread: Golden Eagle headstuds vs SR20VE

Okay, so today I got around to test fitting the Golden Eagle headstuds for the Honda B16 (I think), and we found that (besides the fact that the rightmost pair (seen from the "front" of the engine, to the right of cil. 4) weren't equal in height when hand-tightened) the center pair of studs sit MUCH higher than the rest. About half to 1 centimeter.

Anyone else had this issue?

Why not just get the correct set from Mazworx.

did you clean the head bolt holes out?

I looked at my build pics but don't have one that shows a good height on the head studs. I think I remember the two center head studs sitting higher than the rest.

The GE ones are supposed to fit our SRs, and are MUCH cheaper ($85 compared to the $185 ones by Mazworx). Also, the reviews are generally in favour of the GEs when compared to ARPs.

Yes, the Mazworx are the same design (with the "dog point" at the end, allowing the stud to be completely bottomed out), and are supposedly better in quality (220ksi vs 190 tensile strength on the GEs), but I'm not planning on running very high boost, and even though it's a costly project, money is still an issue. And a $100 difference is a big one for me.





I don't think it would be needed, cause it's fresh from the revision-company, and they did a full cleaning as part of their service, which included oil passages and other holes. Anyways, we just test fitted them.

So it seems like the center ones are actually sitting higher. Weird, though.

Only odd thing now is the fact that the utmost right stud on the bottom row sat lower compared to the upper one.

i would chase those holes out with the propper tools

Better safe than sorry. Chase the threads and run a pick tool down the center to make sure there is no gunk in there. Then blow them out with some compressed air.
