Help! Electrics playing causing car to surge
I am having troubles with my P10 with high port SR20DE.

I had this problem for a short time about a year ago but it went away and now its back again and worse.

When the car is cold, or is warm (but not at full temp) the car will start surging and all the electrics will surge in time with the car. ABS light flashes in time with the surging, Radio does the same & my police scanner (hard wired into 12v) there has been no changes to the electrics for years and the earths in the engine bay look fine, ecu has no codes.

The engine/electrics surges stop at idle and reving the car doesn't replicate it but once i take off again it starts. The problem seems to go away completely when the car is fully warmed up.

I have no idea where to start to look for this fault, alternator? Sticking relay?

Anyone got any input on this?

sounds to me like an alternator problem. Check the voltage. Car might be charging just enough to stay running. Is it worse at night? Other than that I'd check over the ignition. You have resistor wires and plugs right?

Haven't really tried driving it at night. What do you mean by resistor wires and plugs? The ign system is completely standard.

I do have a spare alternator, might be easier for me to completely swap it and see if the problem is still there

If the ECU has a daughterboard, make sure it is still plugged in and secured? Someone had a problem with their car earlier this week and that was the problem. But it does not sound similar unless I misunderstood your original post.

Start simple and get the alternator and battery tested. Then go from there.

Why swap the alternator w/o testing it? All you need is a multimeter.

True, ill test it soon once the wife wakes up. I wouldn't be very popular if the car is started while shes trying to sleep in on a sunday morning lol
