The community..
So I've been lurking/posting on the SR forums for around 7 years now and I have a feeling this community is going down in numbers/interest rather than up. Anyone get this same impression lately? Seems over the last 2 years it's taken a pretty hard dive down. I wouldn't be surprised in 3 years we stop having national conventions.

Thoughts?

I've kind of noticed the same thing myself. seem like a lot of people who made major contributions have moved to different cars. Just yesterday I was wondering if Steve Foltz still builds Custom Shortened Konis?

As for new people, it's getting harder to find SR20 powered cars, and more and more people don't realize what they are.

Benfenner is gone, you hardly from Andreas Miko any more. If people like Ashtonsser, Shawn B, Chriscar, or Vadim, for example, ever leave then we will be in trouble.

I doubt eggman will ever leave. He's got enough parts to outlast a nuclear war.

um we drive econo box crap cars that are far outdated with no big companies really backing it or having someone out there in the motorsports world doing big things consistently to gain recognition.

there is always a thinning of the crowd as people move on to other cars and look into other platforms. your average 17yr old kid isnt dreaming of owning a se-r at all more about the evo and subies and other more attractive cars. not some 20+ year old car that nobody likes. everyone thought we would never have another cheaper tuning option when calum decided to leave but other people have stepped up. dont worry if people leave we will be just fine without them.

There is probably a connection with how crappy the economy is and how difficult it is to maintain a 20 year old car. I think sr20 based cars will stand the test of time for the enthusiast who know these cars inside and out, everyone finds a good deal and comes back around eventually.

After being around g20's for the past 10 years, I have to say, I'll never let go of my P11. I'm almost 30 years old now, and my wife has given up on trying to convince me to find a "newer" car. I sold my z33 to fund portions of our wedding and her ring, and she has accepted the g20 is here to stay.

I wonder if any of you naysayers have ever been to a convention? The community isn't necessarily about the cars anymore as much as it is about the people. Our community has been evolving for years. I said years ago that i would never sell my SE-R, but it now belongs to another member. I shifted my focus from B13's to P10's, and while it's the same engine it's a different core community. I certainly see my Panda becming my sons car in a few years. I myself have been eyeing several other non Nissan platforms for a future project. But the friends I have here will always be my friends.

Why not come out and meet your fellow past and present SR20 heads and see if you don't agree? And BTW last year in Ohio and this year in Georgia will probably be the biggest conventions the community has ever seen. Just sayin

I'd love to make the trip to Atlanta this year, but working as a contractor means I don't get paid when I don't work. It would be a great experience to put a lot of faces with the names, and I'm really trying to figure it out. I don't think anyone in here is acting as a naysayer, but I do agree the community is changing, or as you said, evolving.

Totally understand, making a living in tough times like these outweighs the convention. I hope you get it worked out, would love to meet you.

I hope your vision is the right one, but we'll see in 3 years where we are.
