It really depends on the abuse of the motor and how well it runs. On race engines or engines that are heavily abused, no more than 3k miles and thats using synthetic. On normal DD cars, you can go 5-7k miles on synthetic oil with no issues. My intervals on our MDX is roughly 6-7k miles. The maintenance light doesnt even come on until 7k miles after being reset. Its suggested oil is synthetic and Ive always used synthetic. I always do the changes between 5-7k miles. My wife has gone a little over 8k miles between a change before and it was fine.

It really depends on how well the engine runs.

When I DD'd my car, i would change the oil every 1500-2000 miles and running synthetic. But I always abused my engine, always raced it, and so on.

If you use conventional oil, no more than 4-5k miles but preferably every 3k. Oils today are highly more advanced then they were even 10 years ago. Most manufacturers especially ones that require or suggest synthetic recommend 7500-8k mile oil changes. Because you can do that on newer engines and it will be just fine.

just to make sure . its 5w30 oil right? -with oil filter change 3-1/2quarts , -without oil filter change 3 1/4quarts? i was thinking about using royal purpal break in oil + additive Red Line Synthetic Oil - Motor Oil for Racing - Engine Oil Break-In Additive ... not sure if its a good idea , but im close to 2k miles about 150 miles away so i guess i'll get some regular oil + the additive.

The 3k miles advice is mostly bullshit for the average consumer, but if you are pushing your car hard, and often, I would stick with an interval like that.

Daily Driven, I beat it like a red-headed step child and change the oil, all the time, at or before 3,000 miles.

You can use 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30, 10W-40 etc; They are all fine. I use 5W30 in the G20 roller rocker. It gets cold up here in the winter months. As far as your current situation. Like I mentioned previously, do an oil/filter change ASAP and if you want you can add some of that Red Line ZDDP additive to your regular oil. Then do another oil change soon after (1000-1500 miles) to make sure all of the break-in contaminants are gone. I wouldn't bother with the Royal purple stuff, at this point.
