Damn that sucks, how about the double gasket oil filter anyone? What a
f-ing mess I made in my bay funny thing was I was in a rush to get home and didnt even notice I usually check the old filter to make sure its there. I got home no problem it was when I was on my way to work it decided to let loose oil light came on pulled over opened the hood oil all over the place and late to work to boot.

my oil filter seal has broken on my vvl setups about 3times... at the track and on the street twice. once it was a genuine nissan filter. i was so annoyed.

pretty cool seeing that line of oil about 1/8mile down the road though

Ive yet to ever see an oil filter gasket not come off with the filter. I dont know what your guys are doing wrong and Ive done countless oil changes on pretty much all types of vehicles. Never once. I always check but never once has it happened. I just know to double check so it would never happen to me.

Ive left the drain plug out one time but I caught it right away when I heard oil spilling onto the ground. Good hearing saved that would be huge mess.

i think its install error in my cases. all 3times im almost sure the mechs over-tightened it

Either that or they are putting them on dry and its sticking to the filter housing and not the filter. I always lube the seal and it always comes off with the filter. But even all the other oil changes ive done....hundreds......Ive yet to see one come off and still have the rubber gasket stuck to the filter housing surface. Again who knows. Either ive just been extremely luck your you guys have been extremely unlucky. Either way I check only because of all the horror stories ive heard.

Anyone ever not been able to get the old oil filter off, so you stab it with a screwdriver and hammer, and it still won't turn?

Interesting way of attempting to remove an oil filter

Maybe it was welded on......

This was years ago, that filter probably hadn't been changed in 16,000 miles and it was basically, well, welded on. Someone put it on with an enormous breaker bar attached to one of those filter adapters.

Damn stooooopid tight. It really does make me mad when something simple turns into a nightmare though.
