I know, I appreciate it - I didn't anticipate 100% that the problem was the mounts, but I was hoping it was, mostly since they needed to be replaced anyway, (182,000 miles and still stock) and it makes the car so much better to drive. I ran out of light today, but Saturday I'll be going over everything again.

They actually looked okay mostly. That shifter bushing was a major pain.

the left front axle!

Ordered a new one and its coming on Monday

Are these axles made of matchsticks or something?

The new mounts made the issue less intense for some reason but it def needs to be replaced.

Im not sure if it has to do with me driving it hard or just getting higher in miles, but its busted, this is the 2nd axle i've had break.

Look at the mounts, more than likely if they are original they are probably shot. The tapping doesnt make sense though. When in neutral coasting there is no load on the motor or trans. gears are turning but all in free spin. When in gear there is a torque applied to all those components.

Just have a look at the mounts, replace them and if the noise is still there then im gonna say its an axle or wheel bearing related issue.

I called it,so did ashton.
I will ask again..like I did in post #4....
How low is your car?
You will keep wrecking axles if the car is too low....ak me how I know...
haha...that rhymes.lol

OEM nissan axles will usually be better than aftermarket ones, too. I have seen multiple reman axles have probs right out of the box over the years.

Yeah I know, you guys know your stuff. and to answer the question it's really not that low. Maybe like 1.4" drop or something. It's on Tein coilovers, adjusted properly..

Here's a couple photos of the car from a few months ago..

Oh and the photos above are what consists of my "work area' for the cars. It's a nice townhouse complex but no garage of course, tough to do any jobs too big, I'm afraid to leave the car on jackstands overnight thinking someone will bump into it etc.

Yeah, probably just the shitty quality in the aftermarket axles. Ive only used oem's and never had one break internally that it starts making noise.

I told you man. Your symptoms sounded exactly like an axle problem. Another way you can usually tell there is internal damage is if you do a heavy load low rpm pull and if you feel this hopping in the front or vibration......Axle!

All done, all smooth I forgot how enormous of a difference these prothane motor mounts made over the stock mounts. Car shifts better, even the g/f said it "feels more stable or something"
