i would say bad axle, bad hub, or slip belt on a tire.

I agree with Ashton...it's the axle.

Mine didn't get as bad as yours but it sure was noisy...due to the major pitting from dirt/sand via the torn boot. A father & son shop rebuilt it with bigger balls The father had some homemade tool he used to bore out/polish the pitted holes where the bearing balls went. Never had issues.

haha...I'm sure those are the proper terms.

Wheel bearings can also make a 'pop' sound when you hit a bump or in my case turning into and up the incline of my driveway, but not when turning on a smooth road.

Not to thread jack, but would regreasing an Axel fix what sounds like gears turning? Nothing seems wrong physically or wiggles, but I recently did a engine swap in my SE with another GA and I notice an ambient noise under my feet of what I assume is the Axel and such turning. Car has around 150k and like I said it's basically just a soft metal gears turning type ambient noise.....nothing intermittent or loud. It's, not the original Axel tho, swapped with the engine and tranny (auto) with 96k on them
