anyone with experience.. is it cheaper to have it rebuilt or have a shop swap motors?
hi it looks like i am in that terrible position of piston rings shot. i will be doing a compression test this weekend but it is burning oil, smoking out the back and stalling like a mofo.

my question is is it gonna be cheaper to source a motor and have a shop swap it or to have a hop rebuild it. what really is in a rebuild kit these days? i see i need head gasket, studs, probably timing chain and tensioner and front and rear seals.

anything else i should do?

Well then you should be able to hit up a engine imported thats local and score a DE for around 500 bucks. Should be a low mileage engine too. I wouldnt waste the money in getting the engine rebuilt. You can find a replacement motor for a 1/4 of what a shop will charge to rebuild the engine.

You can from what I read but don't hold me to it. I'm collecting parts now for my Ve build . I'm going to use this ECU

Chipped B13 ECU with VVL Outputs - 001 - NismoTronic
