Would not having it on even cause a no start? (honest question I haven't snooped around down there before)

The timing gears are on the crank, so I am just curious as to how the pulley system can cause a no-start.

I'm assuming you mean "with the timing chain cover off" in which case, no, I didn't turn it over until it was fully re-assembled.

Fully charged, and if I work on the car for prolonged periods I throw a charger on it afterward just for good measure.

There is a rhythm to it, but it's a bit funky (which is why I was leaning alot toward bad cam timing). I'll get a video of what I mean in a minute.

I agree 100%. A compression test either will tell you the problem or rule out a good number of things. I'm doing that today, will post results.

I'll give this a try. Probably go right to testing it with a lighter, since I enjoy watching stuff burst into flames (including newbs :rofl

The pulley is in good condition, and it didn't separate. I even had the actual removal tool handy that threads in those two holes on it to pull it. Keyway and everything on the pulley is good.

I don't think it can, but you wouldn't want it to run like that anyway considering it drives the water pump and alty. But not having that pulley on shouldn't affect the starting of the engine, just the running of it.

There is a metal piece on the crank that is in the shape of a half circle, with the flat side up so that the spacer and the pulley go on only one way. That metal piece is easy knock off the crank when you pull the pulley sometimes. Then if you put the crank pulley on without it, it wont be in the correct position. Then when you put the motor at TDC by lining up the crank pulley, it will be off, as will the cam timing when you try to get them lined up.

yep, but I did TDC by the piston position first, checked crank 2nd, so I know it's good

Okay, here's the video of my car being mean:

Compression results over 3 trials:

#1 - 139, 140, 140
#2 - 0, 0, 0
#3 - 0, 0, 0
#4 - 139, 141, 140

Gas smelled normal, I took some from the pump and lit it on the ground, no problems. I think this narrows it down pretty well . If I only had access to a compression kit earlier, this would have been easier.

91serturbo, I know you said you had similar issues, but to be honest I can't completely decipher your post. What exactly happened, how did you know it was that, and what exactly was the fix? From reading your post, all I can gather is your lifters stuck, you loosened the cams, and just had the motor spin for a while? I guess I'm not 100% on-board with the how or why with that...

did you remove the cams?

I've had no reason to thus far.

actually the next thing i would do is un plug all 4 injectors and spinn the engine withe the plugs out for atleast one minute.
next add 5 drops of oil to each cylinder
next retest compresson

if compresson has not improved on cyl#3&4 then add alot more oil to each cyl and recheck #3&4

so if compresson is not up in 3&4
add 20 drops or a real good squirt to #3 then ck #3 compresson

then add oil to #4 and ck #4 compresson

if compresson never changes its time to loosen cams

if compresson rises or is normal then engine is flooding big time

engine oil or trans fluid will work fine for this test.

if you have mutiple kinds oil oil layin around use thin oil the first time then use the thick oil if 3&4 dont improve

thin oil would be auto trans fluid or air tool oil or marvel mistory oil or wd40 or 10/40 oil

thick oil would be 20/50 oil or 30w or trans gear oil like 80/90 or 75/140

do not use brake fluid or power steering fluid

do you still have the gauge?

i do have the gauge, I'll try this out. I would like to know exactly what we're doing here though. I'm not as stupid as you seem to think. If you tell me what you're gearing it toward or what you want me to check, tell me. It will help me know what I'm looking for too. I'm assuming you want me to use the oil to test out the piston rings as they may be leaking down. If you're thinking something else, let me know.
