I keep an extra one in the trunk.
It would be cool if my mother could fix it.

Among my dreadful experiences with the snapping cables I have noted a critical factor in lengthening the life of this part. I replaced my clutch once with an Exedy OEM clutch and despite this being a Japanese part, the performance is not so great. Particularly, the clutch is manufactured with only 8 prongs where the throwout bearing makes contact. For that reason I personally believe that the engagement of the clutch is causing more tension on the clutch cable. I replaced my clutch again recently with Sachs clutch and it is manufactured with 16 prongs instead of 8. Along with Nissan OEM clutch cable I have nothing but good things to say about this combination and as of now its been over 10000 miles. The performance is very similar to what it was the first 1000 miles I had it installed whereas before, with the Exedy clutch, I was anticipating the snapping of my cable from the way it felt after 2000-3000 miles.

OEM

What pressure plate are you using...
and are you using Mikos beefed up clutchcable bracket? It will help...

Ive been using an ACT Xtreme PP for over a year with an OEM cable (3 years old itself) & no problem...

Both myself and my brother had our clutch cables snap in our SR20DE's. His was in his '93 SE-R, mine was in my '98 SE.

It honestly makes you a little afraid to drive manual transmissions. I never replaced one myself, BUT after this thread I just ordered a new one, to keep as a spare. Are they hard to put in?

No its pretty easy if you have light to see where you hook the cable to the pedal. Still annoying when it happens. Fixing clutch cable in McDonald's lot. Ftl

I have my third cable in the back seat waiting for a moment. I've never snapped either but mine get rigid. They feel like theyre gonna snap I guess you can say, almost like they're rubbing on something, definitely friction. I run the 1.6 cable on my se-r. It's slightly shorter and less stretching involved. This next cable I'm gonna grease first in hopes to prolong the life and resist the friction feeling I eventually feel.
