Thread: Clutch cable snapped

- Always keep a spare clutch cable in the trunk. Always.

I keep an extra one in the trunk.
It would be cool if my mother could fix it.

Among my dreadful experiences with the snapping cables I have noted a critical factor in lengthening the life of this part. I replaced my clutch once with an Exedy OEM clutch and despite this being a Japanese part, the performance is not so great. Particularly, the clutch is manufactured with only 8 prongs where the throwout bearing makes contact. For that reason I personally believe that the engagement of the clutch is causing more tension on the clutch cable. I replaced my clutch again recently with Sachs clutch and it is manufactured with 16 prongs instead of 8. Along with Nissan OEM clutch cable I have nothing but good things to say about this combination and as of now its been over 10000 miles. The performance is very similar to what it was the first 1000 miles I had it installed whereas before, with the Exedy clutch, I was anticipating the snapping of my cable from the way it felt after 2000-3000 miles.

i spray the part of the cable that comes out of the firewall with wd-40 or equivalent every month or so and has made my oem clutch cable from a junkyard last a little more than a year so far.....same treatment with parts store cables still had them snapping every couple months.....this is with an act HD PP <
