This is ridiculous. Only a few months at 150ftlbs and the new bearing is crap.
I really don't want to wait for Greg to ship me $200 worth of bearings and I don't think my pass wheel will stay on that long. (I commute 2hrs a day)
I'm searching meow for anyone with experience with napa or autozone bearings....
Any suggestions? I am about to just do this tonight.

Thanks,

Walker

I use Nationals. Found them on eBay after a ton of searching.

I have a FSM and have replaced a few bearings so the minimum torque specs start at 190ft lbs and I have not gone over 230ft lbs. Had to get a decent torque wrench to make sure I was within specs. Was told by the techs at the dealership that you can overtighten a bearing . Didn't really believe them until the OEM bearings that were replaced began to fail prematurely. Keep them within FSM specs they said and they will last forever. So far so good after a year of track abuse.

Well I'm back.

I found one Timken near me, and it took me about 2.5hrs. I just did the passenger side and tightened the driver side more..

Howly moly, its so quite in there now I cannot believe it haha.

Good to know bluesteelsr20. It seems despite my firm assumption due to the way the vehicle sounded that my newly installed driver side @ 150ftlbs is still chugging after a few months, I can hear no audible vibration at any speed. Of course now they both have to be double that.

If Ben has had no failures I am willing to stick with what I got them to tonight.

Cheers

i would do it in steps then, first 145 then 200 or whatever

i've never had to replace wheel bearings yet, but all the axles i've had in an out i've never used a tq wrench, i just use my jack handle over my 1/2" rachet, or just stand on the rachet an give it a few bounces. maybe its more important with fresh bearings?
