Thread: VE alternator squealing

background info: RR engine.

Issue:
I swaped out my usdm 00+ alternator for a VE alternator and noticed its the same part number but a few internals are diffrent. Autozone did a check on the alternator and said it is dead (the VE..) i don't trust autozone so i install VE alt in my p11.
The problem is when I put the power wires on the ve alt the alt starts to make a loud noise and gets super hot on the pulley only. My dash doesn't show any signs of charging issues but then again I'm not able to to keep the car on long enough to be sure. Because pulley gets so hot I don't want the belt to get destroyed.
What could be the problem? is it worth swapping the voltage regulator diode's out between my usdm which doesnt not squea with the VE? Thanks in advance. watch the videos below to see what Im talking about:

The bearing or whatever in the alternator is shot. When it was out of the car did you spin it? If its bad it will sometimes make a noise you can hear/feel even if you turn it by hand. sorry.

go order one from Andreas. He sells good ones better than autozone or whatever other garbage ones... plus they are cheaper.

i dont understand why it only squeals when power is drawn from it, if the bearing is bad shouldn't it out right make a bad noise.
would i be able to swap out the bearing from my usdm alt into the ve alt with no issues or does that require a machine press?

It only makes a noise when there is a load on it... I don't know what your time is worth to you but eff all that nonsense... for $60 (give or take) I'd be hitting up Andreas Miko.

^^ ditto. Bearing is shot, and when a load is on it wil be worse.

i took the good VE voltage regulator diode out and mated it to my good RR DE rotor/bearing assembly , only took 10 mins and a few paper towels. if its still crap, ill just sell one of my boosted bits and get another alternator for it.
