Passenger side Prothane Motor mount finally wore out?
I dont understand how or why this happened. But it did. We have to slice a bit of the mount to get to those two bolts on the side of the passenger side mount. Well the other day I was driving the car and the motor was moving and shifting alot more then Im use to it doing. So I took a look around the engine bay. What I found was that my Prothane on the passenger side is no longer solid and it looks as if something has been eating at it or something. Anyone else had this problem? Granted I bought these mounts when lightning motor sports had them for $55 shipped. I think it was like 2005 maybe when I bought them. The other two I have are still perfect though along with my Solid front dogbone. Pic coming in a sec

Any oil or grease on them? The poly may not like certain chemicals on it.

Actually yeah...my oil pump was leaking up top and oilwas getting splashed. But I didn't think it was enough to kill the mount like that. Only been a week or two of driving. The little tab on the sode of the mount closest to the fire wall was literally cut off by tue mount moving so much

They were wearijg before that though. The metal cylindar insert wasin the hole. But tye hole. Hasn't been round for a while. I mean I guess if it took that long to wear I got my moneys worth. But I didn't know the wore out that bad.

That sounds like the problem too me, but I do remember someone posting a new defective mount at some point. Maybe if was just a build flaw, mine are at least that old with no issue either.

I remember either Prothane or Energy Suspension said on their box chemical resistant to oil and other chemicals. I don't know though maybe it was one or the other and not both.

I'm with Jere.

While certain chemicals may deteriorate urethane, oil doesn't make sense. I cannot imagine that Energy Suspension or Prothane would make a product that goes under hood, or under the car, that would get ruined by motor oil (or most petroleum based liquids). And if they did, we'd have known about it long before now.

I would look for other explanations for the mount deteriorating.

Just got the package from Greg vizzy with the replacement insert. Apparently prothane has updated the insert since mine. The new one has a place on each side that go where everyone was having problem puting the sidebolts into the mount. I'm not convonced yet that I still wont have to modify the new one for easy bolt access. But well see.

But yeah I would think oil shouldn't break down a material that's gonna be used as a motor mount insrt right next to the oil pump

Prior to my other B14 getting stolen my passenger mount was on its way out. It was deteriorating like you said. I never sprayed it with anything or got oil on it...
