Clutch cable popping off? WTF?
I am stumped.
I have searched.
I have no idea WTF could cause this.

I put the clutch cable on,adjusted nicely, fells good.
lower the hood, get in and push the clutch in,and POP it goes to the floor.
Felt just like the cable broke...upon inspection,it is fine, but loose.
I put the cable back on,and same thing happens, each time with 10 or so presses of the clutch after adjustment.
After this happenning 4 times,I said fuckit and went in for the night with my hands bleeding from messing with it.

Any ideas????

BTW,I did not install the trans or clutch.

Both.
It will be loose at both ends like the arm is getting stuck or something.
I will have to loosen the slack all the way to reinstall, then all the way back to where it is adjusted.

It could be that you are adjusting it much too tight? So when you push the clutch to the floor the clutch arm moves so far back that the cable slips off the end? Maybe the notch in the clutch arm where the cable rests is worn out some too? Get someone to do the clutch while you watch in the engine bay.

Or its just a bad clutch cable that is about to completely snap and break. Ive seen that happen.

It wont just fall off unless there is other issues like a broken clutch fork, or lever that the cable attaches to. Ive also seen the clutch cable break on the pedal side, the pin that goes onto the hook on the pedal just bent and broke. Might be whats happening with yours. Gurantee its a clutch cable issue 99.9% sure.

I wish I had the optionto have some one watch but I am working alone at the moment.

I have tried to adjust it less tight, but it wont disengage like that.
Although it does seem like maybe its getting hung up or something.
This is the same car that has the engine trans spacer missing...I wonder if it has anything to do with it??

This clutch cable is in great shape,OEM Nissan,etc....and I have used up some really crappy ones over the years.
This one is nice and smooth, the ends show very little wear.(rollers still in the pin.)
Tranny and pedal notches look good too.

I am dreading dropping the trans ...but the car was brought to me like this.It seems like the only way to be sure ther is not a TOB/clutch problem in there when whoever installed it...dammit

Hard to tell. Ive also seen where the throwout bearing cracked on the sleeve causing it to bind on the bellhousing sleeve that it rides on. This was caused because there was absolutely no grease lubricating it. Pedal would be very notchy going in and releasing until it got to the point it actually broke the clutch fork. Who knows man. If the cable is in good shape all the way throughout and the lever that it attaches to is in good shape then more than likely its an issue with the trans.

Ive seen pics of the clutch lever the cable attaches to breaking but not likely your problem. The spacer not being there is not likely causing this issue. Again i would double check the cable especially where it connects to the pedal and make sure all is good before diving into the trans.

^^ trust me ,the last thing I want to do is drop the trans at this point.

Can you take a video inside the engine bay while you operate the pedal to see what's going on? I would exhaust all options before dropping the tranny.
