Cam swap
I'm going to be picking up a engine tomorrow and I'm planning on swapping the cam from my 92 into this engine before I drop it in.. How strait forward is it? Anyone have any write ups on it? I want to make sure that I install it right =\

Thanks in advanced guys!

2 things to remember, put all the caps back on in the same spot they came off and zip ties on the cam gears to hold the chain in place is much easier than the wooden block that jwt suggest.

its easy, i do one cam at a time if its a quick swap, this way you dont need the block because i hold the chain/gear assembly up with my hand, if the motor is sitting for a while i will use something to hold the chain up.

even though the chain shouldnt fall and jump a teeth on the bottom because theres a guide there to hold it up, becareful to avoid this because this happened to a motor i bought from some one who replaced the headgasket, and it took me a while to figure out why my car coudlnt rev over 5k rpms

A cam swap is pretty straight forward but you have to do some research and know what you are doing. It's easy to screw it up big time if you make a mistake. Do some searching before you start the job. Information is power.

Zipties, definitely. Organize EVERYTHING. I don't even mix up the bolts (that's just me, though).

Those 10mm cap bolts aren't very stout when they face side loads - make sure you loosen/tighten them in order (see FSM) and go just a little at a time. Get aggressive, and damage becomes very likely.

Also, does this engine have the new(er) chain tensioner on it? Wouldn't be a bad idea to snag one of those. Keeps some of the racket down if you don't DD your car, amongst other things.

Good luck!

Hjbarker wussup man!! Long time!

Yeah just take your time and dknt be trying to tighten shit down way to much and your good. Tighten something down to much and you'll have ALOT more work on your hands.

also dont forget that you have to do it in a sequence

when removing work your way from the outsides in

when installing work your way from the inside out, this way you dont warp the cam
