If they would be more competitive with their prices they would sell more quanity. I know materials to make those bov's are nowhere near that amount.

There are a lot of products that I plain out wont use knockoffs, Turbos, wastegates, engine internals, suspension, clutches, flywheels, wheels, and gauges.

Seen way too many problems and nightmares from knockoffs of the items listed above. Blox control arms breaking in half on hondas causing wrecks, blox suspension falling apart, turbos blowing apart compressor housings, turbine housings, wheels, shafts, wastegates failing, gauges that dont read anywhere near properly and or break within a couple days, flywheels shattering, clutches not holding or breaking, wheels breaking (rotas), and the list goes on. However parts I will and have used knockoffs with great success, Tial knockof 50mm bov (awesome bov for the money, held 35+ lbs of boost without leaking and blows off properly, Turbo XS RFL knockoff bov, great bov that functions properly without problems, Intercooler piping and fmic. You really cant mess these up and when you have greddy or any other name brand selling the same intercooler made out of the same materials with the same weld qualities for 4-5X the price and no performance to gain one from another, well thats where i have a problem. And you cant tell me that really any R&D goes into making a universal intercooler. Hell even factory replacement upgrade intercoolers like the SRT4 one that I bought take much more than getting some measurements and making the thing. So why the hefty pricetag. Your paying for a name at that point and again really no performance gain from a Greddy intercooler vs a knockoff. Its a pretty simple concept.

There are certain knockoff bov's i wont use because they are crap, such as the greddy type s knockoffs. So far ive had many friends use them and have yet to see one function properly, not leak, and not sound right. Most switched to the real thing and wow, what do you know, night and day difference. Same goes with the HKS SSQ knockoff. They are crap, yet to see one work without issues. All the other greddy type rs, type r and so on, same crap, dont work.

Again some things i just cant justify spending 4-5X the price on to have almost the same quality and performace out of it.

In all reality of things the knockoff companies are what have kept this hobby alive in this time and economy to an extent. Good US companies that make great products that perform and are reasonably priced wont have a problem selling their stuff.

I still buy name brand items for most of my stuff, id say 99% of my build now is all name brand US bought items. But ive never been one for knockoffs either exept for the intercooler, piping, bov, and one turbo manifold that I used.

exactly. some of those parts or super overpriced, to the point of robbery. especially when the cost peanuts to make.

ive very rarely used knock off parts. maybe a few times over my life time. if i cant afford or dont want to pay the price for a new real part ill find it used.

im all for paying less for a part that is of teh same quality and cheaper because it doesnt carry the name.

alot of my higher end parts are custom fab parts, so at this point, i generally try to find people who can make what i want. ex: headers, intake manis, etc etc.

stratton.

Great idea Brent. Why don't you do it and see how you lose your ass on it. 75 pcs sold.

I dear you to. Do it so I can laugh at you. They aint touching it unless you make about 1000 pcs.

Miko and others as for the headers and intercoolers I agree ( overpriced shit ) other things like turbos, wastegates, suspension, etc no way in hell.

I have owned a ssac header and removed it for a fuji. I used to have a hks intercooler but now I have a godspeed since I have had great luck with them. That being said its not as good as the unit they copied and if I cut it open I could show you why.

Miko brings up a good point about the hotshots. They cracked and cost a lot of money. Also I'd rather have a stainless header than a mild steel header.

Now if the hotshots had been bullet proof different story.

the thing about the ssac headers i dont like is sometimes the flanges dont match up right.. sometimes you can drill the holes out an make it fit an thats no biggy, but when the primary is welded off center an is to close to the exhaust stud you cant thread a nut on.. that pisses me off.. but yes my ssac's have held up much better then the hotshot i had.

also i run a blox velocity stack, i didnt like the black plastic ones that other company had at the time so i got a blue anodized aluminum blox one for half the price.. its a fuckin velocity stack not that hard to figure out. i dont feel bad for buying it.

im in agreement with the thing about companys charging too much for shit. im not rich, im on a budget. so when i can get virtually the same thing for cheaper i do it.

on the other hand there is some stuff i dont go cheap on.. any bearings or gaskets, nuts or bolts, clutch cables ect.. i try to get oem stuff when i can unless im upgrading.

SSAC has 50 cent an hour (probably) child labor...

You copy-cat lovers, here's my challenge to you. Develop a 4-1 header and sell it for $100 .. see if its worth your time.
