Completely off-topic but this thread reminded me of something. I was on my way to work a few weeks ago and I was at a light waiting to get on a local toll highway. Well, a new Infiniti G37S pulled up next to me. I had my window down and I heard what sounded like tiny pebbles being thrown against a piece of tin foil. I looked over and yep, just as I thought! My horn wasn't working so I revved up me VE to get his attention and when he looked over I motioned him to put his window down. I then asked him if he knew his motor was detonating? He told me his car was new an that he was sure it was fine. I asked him out of curiousity what gas he had recently put in his car. He proudly stated he puts the cheap stuff in there, 87 octane and followed up by saying he wasnt going to waste money on overpriced useless gas, I'm fine he said!

Okay sir, enjoy putting 87 octane into your 11:1 compression VQ37VHR, I'm sure it will last you a long time!

^^Wow yeah some people should really not own nice cars. Hopefully the dealer does a thorough tear down of the engine and an analysis of the gasoline in the tank so that this dumbass doesn't get a free engine.

On my last SE-R at 1st I was pumping 91 but I rarely drove the car, only on wknds. Then 1 or 2 days a week, depending on where my work was sending me, I would take it to work with higher fuel prices I switched over to 87.

This July (2011) the b13 became my daily & right away I noticed that I was getting so-so mialage on the highway & shitty mialage in the city & switched back to 91. I went from getting 230-60mi to 270-300mi, but in October after a tune-up I was getting 290+ & the best I got was a lil over 330mi on a well paid for work & without the reserve light turning on, & yes it Still works.
That happened a week before I sold the SE-R too.

Btw, I wonder what brand/octane SR20ULY pumps into Ruby now! nah I kid

I pump Chevron's 91 with Techron & a close 2nd is Shell's 91 with V-Power, followed by 76/Sam's Club/Costco, & yeah I was driving daily (4 work) 180-260+ miles a day!

On my SE-R 87, it's the daily beater so it gets the cheap stuff

On my SS it gets 91 or 92, usually 91 because BP is the only place around here that carries 92 and for some reason they think that extra 1 point is worth an extra 10c a gallon over everyone else 91

I've been getting about 290 on full tank. 91 Shell with V-power.

Maybe after the alignment I might get better MPGs.

Stock SR20VE in CA. Run 91 only, ran 87 and it knocked, ran 89 and it knocked, ran ARCO 91 and it would come on and off so now I run Shell or Chevro 91 and it's all gravy.

On my Tacoma & my last p10t, the times I did pump Arco, the CEL would light up, the taco would run cool but my p10t would hesitate a lil.
