you would need to remove the diff cover to weld it. You could also just replace the diff cover.

looks like it was dropped or something. You could defintetly have it welded right there. You could probably do it with the case still on you would need to make sure the case is empty of fluids and clean it well with some brake cleaner before attempting to weld it. Proper way to do it would be to remove the case and weld it. But can probably do it with it on.

I would try the JB weld trick first. If you try to get it tigged like that the oil will be pulled into the weld. You will have to get it pulled apart to do it right. Tig is very sensitive to oil and dirt.

as a "temp fix" you could "stop drill" the crack, then clean it it up and jb weld it.
i used this technique on a wheel (RP01) that was leaking air from a crack. the wheel is still in use today (7 yrs later)
i also did this to a tranny case that was cracked @ the drain plug hole. in that instance i also jb welded the drain plug in.( i'd planned on replacing the tranny anyway)
hey, it worked

Its not hard. If you can get the trans out of the car on your own, you can handle getting the case apart. You don't have to disassemble anything inside the trans once you separate the case. All of the internals are attached to the bellhousing, not that piece. The hardest thing to get is the snap ring under the little cover that has like 6 screws (I think, not sure of the actual #, haven't looked at an SR trans in a while) holding it on.

taking of the front cover is not hard at all very simple

roastedpavement.com- Friction-Type LSD Install into B15 Transmission this page is very helpful, i give credit to who ever made it, im sure hes a forum member, but with that being said i would try jb weld first,
