Well I got a Borla XR-1 40085 resonator installed. It's a 3" in/out 5" round/15" long can. I'm pretty impressed by it, I'm sure Magnaflow would help just as much too.

Before. Reved to 6-7k rpm max

After. Reved to 8k rpm bouncing of the limitter

2.5" in/out 18-inch (?) Magnaflow resonator
2.5" in/out Vibrant Stealth Muffler

According to Rockwood on MotoIQ, they have those two (2) Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonators installed with no BFH modifications to the tunnel, and it fits with no rattling.

I am going VE in 2012, upgrading to the SSAC with bigger secondaries, (probably) keeping my 2.5" exhaust, and want the damn thing to be uber-quiet.

Alternately, I wonder if the exhaust as done by MotoIQ, complete with 3" piping and the two (2) Ultra Quiet resonators is (can be) as quiet as a 2.5" exhaust with one (1) standard 18" resonator.

Trying to figure out the best performance with the least amount of noise. Which I realize are goals that are in direct polar opposition to each other.

Replying to the bold sections in reverse order.

I would wager that it will be more quiet than the standard 18" resonator that you will put on there. The bigger the resonator material you have in there, the better it will be to muzzle the sound.

I've also been following a fabricators thread over on Honda Tech (don't advocate the website, just the fabricator, hes awesome). Through that, I found a great idea for keeping the exhaust in check and not moving around.

This is from an S13 center exhaust he did. Check out the creative use of the hanger. I bet our cars could be similarly modified to utilize a hanger like this under the car in the tunnel. You would just have to modify the new "hanger" coming off the exhaust piping to work.
