manual rack
Would there be much of a gain from switching from power steering to manual rack? My r&p is bad right now, and i figured i could get rid of my p/s and go manual to save weight and parasitic loss...

I asked this question not too long ago and I was replied to with another question... What is your goal for the car? Drag, autox, etc....

Go for it, I got a manual rack for 40 bucks at a junk yard. I don't mind no power steering plus it cleans up the engine bay and one its less thing to break!

Oh, and it is my dd

^^^ That was exactly my first thought process! Then when I mentioned to vadim that I wanted to autox the car, he talked me out of it. He told me about how far the clock to clock turning was and that on those very tight tracks I would suffer. Drag racing, daily driver... I say go for it! If you are like me and have a very active autox scene in your town....dont. Just my .02, I am no expert but I did defer to the smarter people on this forum and that its what I got from them.

This^^

I converted two cars to manual racks and love them but I am more into drag racing since there is no autox in my area...

I've done it on my NX. It's not terrible, you just have to use a little more Ooomph if you are parking. I've never done autox with a manual rack though.

Not really worth it gains are not much on the dyno. Only real gain is a less empty bay.

I want to clean up the bay some, and i always have bad luck with p/s leaks in the craziest places... so i figured manual rack is a win win win. also, its my dd, and i dont mind not having p/s.

make sure you get all the knucles/u-joint parts off the donor car when you get the rack...they are different.
