good purchase?
So I found a 98 se on craigslist for 2500. The car looks very clean and it is the original owner. The car has 190000 miles on it. It blue books for about 2750 with that many miles. It really drew me in because of the original owner but is that just too many miles? At what miles do they usually start having problems? Thanks guys.

I beleave the 98s were SEs, my last SER had 200k+ and ran with no issues... I'm sure u could talk him down on the price, althought it doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Also the car is 15, so expect it to have some serious miles. The least it should have is around 150k. Assuming they put 10k miles a year...

Go see the car in person ive seen many cars on craigslist that looked amazing, and when i went to see them they were ridiculous. You should also expect to pay a couple hundred bucks on maintenance parts

Don't be afraid of just the miles, if the car has lots of highway miles that is ideal. Well just as long as it maintained well.

If a car's motor is running for long periods of time, that helps keep water from getting into the oil because of the heat. If there is a lot of on and off letting the motor cool down there is more chance of water getting into the oil, and this creates acid that eats metal which equals premature engine problems.

I drive taxi for a living the cabs are all gas powered v8 crown vics. They are all pretty much running 6-24 hours a day with 100-500+ miles per day. They were all cop cars before taxis, and they have been to hell and back. But pretty much all of the cabs hit 500,000 poorly maintained miles on the original motors (with no rebuilds, the taxi company is too cheap lol). So don't be afraid of miles if everything else on the car is good

I'm going to check it out in an hour or so. Hopefully it looks good. So you think just maintainence parts but nothing internally?

So the car looked good. It had a really straight body with normal scratches as stuff. The engine seemed to pull hard and it shifted smoothly. One concern I have is the clutch seems really soft but I'm used to a extreme pressure plate but I looked at the adjusting screw and it seemed all the way adjusted. She said it was replaced 20000 miles ago and also it engages really high so that could be why. Also the a/c doesn't work so you think I should talk her down?
